How to create your own assessments using a bank of standards aligned questions.


This article will show you how to use existing questions to build a new assessment.

Creating an Assessment

1. From the Assessment Menu chose Assessment Grid.

2. Click the "+New" button to create a new assessment.

3. You must name your assessment and give it a description. These names and descriptions will be presented to students when they take the assessment.

4. Optional: Search for users to share the assessment with. Click on the user in the search results area to share the assessment with them.

5. Settings: There are a number of options related to online assessments which you may choose to turn on or off. "Assessment Level Settings," "Student Settings", and "Staff Settings" Allow you to lock out certain options when scheduling the assessment. If you think you (or others you share with) will need an option, make sure it has a green check mark. This will allow that option to be turned on or off when scheduling the assessment.

Each option has a small "i" icon for "info" icon. Hovering your mouse over this icon will give you more information about it.

Note: we are not using the "Secure Browser" feature, so leave this option as shown.

Note: If your are creating an assessment based on a passage of text, do not randomize the "Items." If you do, questions from the same passage will not be grouped together.
 

6. Classify your assessment by grade and subject to make it easier to find in the future. Alternatively, you can classify it by Course.

7. Click "Add Existing Items" to search through existing questions to add to your assessment.



8. You will see a list of filters. Select the item bank(s) you want to use. Set additional filters by question type, depth of knowledge etc. If you're printing bubble sheets, you should limit your Item Types to multiple choice and Multiple Select questions. Click the magnifying glass next to "Filter by Standards" to search by standards.

9. You will see the course aligned standards you imported into your class. Under "options" check the "show codes" checkbox so you can see how many questions are in the bank for that standard. Click the standards you would like to include so that they become "Selected." Press the "Done Selecting Standards" Button.

10. To add items to your assessment, click individual questions so they turn green.

11. Click "Done Selecting Items" once you've selected your questions.

12. On the "Items Overview" you can:

  • Click and drag on an item number to rearrange your question order.
  • Change the point value for questions

13. Click "Save" to save the assessment in your Assessment Grid.
 

14. Once your assessment is created, follow these instructions for scheduling students to take the assessment you just created.
