One key steps in our article covering how to import a Canvas course from a previous year is to clear out the due dates before importing. The article contained the dire warnings pictured to the right to convey the importance of this step.

If you forgot to clear out the due dates before importing assignments from a previous term or school year don't panic, you can recover from this. Here are the steps.

1. If you have your grade book set to "Automatically apply grade for missing submissions," disable this setting before proceeding.
   
   
2. Import assignments again, making sure to remove due dates. DO NOT re-import any assignments that already have scores or student submissions as this information will be overwritten.
   
   
3. After import is complete, go the the Assignments screen to set due dates. This can be done in bulk by accessing the "edit assignment dates" screen as pictured below.
   
   
   
4. If you disabled a missing assignment policy in step 1, re-enable it
